Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl Events Begin

The 35th annual Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, featuring the Baylor Bears and the UCLA Bruins, is a day away and the bowl game festivities in San Diego have begun.

The kickoff luncheon begins today at the San Diego Convention Center. More than 1,500 fans, coaches and players will be treated to gourmet food while being entertained by the Battle of the Bands competition and listening to the coaches of both Baylor and UCLA speak about this year’s bowl game on Dec. 27.

The 17th annual Holiday Bowl 5K Run will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 27 at the corner of Harbor Drive and Ash Street in downtown San Diego. It will conclude just past G Street where race finishers can begin viewing the Big Bay Balloon Parade. “America’s Largest Balloon Parade” begins at 10 a.m. on Harbor Drive. As always, this exciting family event brings together world-class marching bands, magnificent floats, and a procession of enormous balloons. The 16th annual Wiener Nationals will be held just prior to the start of the parade. This event crowns the nation’s fastest dachshund and is held in the television area on Harbor Drive. The parade will be televised live by Channel 4 San Diego.

Also, on the morning of Dec. 27, Broadway Pier will host the Big Bay Family Festival. This free event will feature carnival games, rock climbing, balloon artists, and temporary airbrush tattoos.

From 4:15 – 6:15 p.m., Qualcomm Stadium will host the Slater’s 50/50 EndZoner‘s Tailgate Party. This event offers an all-you-can-eat burger buffet, drinks and live musical entertainment. You must be 21 or older to attend and tickets are available at the door for $30.00.

Preceding the game is a pre-game show spectacular complete with marching bands, parachute jumpers from the Navy Leap Frogs and the always spectacular 45,000 square foot field-size American flag.

This year’s Qualcomm Stadium game kicks off at 6:45 p.m. P.S.T. on Dec. 27 and will be televised live nationally on ESPN. Tickets for the bowl game may be purchased at or through Ticketmaster. For every ticket sold, Bridgepoint Education will donate one dollar to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.
